Relocation

Well, It’s been a little while since I’ve done a blog entry, I’ve been telling myself to do one, but I swear things have been nonstop for the last few weeks. With preparations for moving, actually moving, and now getting settled in, I think tonight is the first night I’ve actually had ample amounts of time to just relax. Last Wednesday my father and I got in the car around 8AM, after some tears and some laughs, I left my home and made way towards my “new home.” I write that in quotations, because I don’t believe my dorm, nor New York, is my home as of yet, home is somewhere you have a deep emotional attachment to–and as much as I love New York City, that doesn’t cut it enough. Let me deviate away just for a second. My home in South Carolina:

I made, lost, and kept some of the best friends I have ever known
I made it through multiple schools, and two years of college
I got my first two jobs, and left them both.
I grew up, from start until now. I took my first steps, I rode my first bike, and then drove my first car away from the place that had taught me everything I know, and molded me into the person I am today.

Home. (defined in multiple different ways, but Webster’s fourth definition suits me perfectly):

A place of origin

So, Charleston is my home, and always will be, in a sense I’ve never left Charleston, and hopefully when I’m a healthy old man, I’ll return home to rest by the beach, walk down Market Street, and remember my childhood and young adulthood there.

Now! Onto this week, this week has been literally, CRAZY. Thursday my father and I ran errands, and went into New York City, which if you keep up with my blog, I adore. Being in the city with my father was an amazing experience, as he’s lived there. Spending time with him was amazing, we clashed a couple times but only because we’re both so hard headed it’s unreal. Saturday, the hurricane (you know, good ole’ Irene), followed us up there, and pretty much shut down the entire state of New York. Sunday, we reminisced and hung out with family, and I said my goodbyes to my father, and I’ll admit, I lost it. I cried, sobbed, to the point where my eyes burned. Realization was the feeling that slapped me in the face, picked me back up, and slapped me back down again. I realized, my father is getting older–much older, his health is declining, and i’ve been so blissfully unaware that it literally broke me down. I requested my mother from this point forward be completely honest with me–if his health declines at a rapid rate, or anything bad happens, I want to be able to relocate myself to College of Charleston, my mother isn’t really for the idea, but it’s not throwing my life away as some would say, College of Charleston is an AMAZING university and they do offer my degree. So, If I have to return home early, I will, and I won’t regret it. My focus now is on my family, calling, keeping in touch everyday, keeping in touch with my friends in Charleston, and keeping up with schoolwork. I’m trying to make new friends here, but, everyone is kind of reserved to themselves. Everybody knows everybody here, and outsiders don’t feel very welcomed. However, they’ve never met this loud obnoxious Southerner–so watch out SBU.

Which, brings me to my final thought. New York isn’t my new home, not yet at least, I’ve simply relocated.

Relocation, simply defined as:

To move to or establish in a new place

Charleston is my hometown and always will be.

3AM

I’m definitely not having the best moment in life right now, or these past few weeks per say. I got into a huge fight with someone who I considered a friend for years, and our friendship is on a hiatus, whether that’s permanent or temporary time will only tell. I won’t apologize for what I said — because there’s nothing to apologize for. In other news, I’m headed off to Stony Brook in 30 days, and, I’m getting mixed feelings really fast. So, I’m going to now create a list to remind myself why I’m going…p.s. to my future self sitting in your dorm laughing at how wrong I was, screw you.

Pros:

There’s my list so far, it’ll grow I’m sure within the next 30 days. Reason for writing it? I looked up my school on a few websites, and it has mixed reviews, some love it ,some hate it, but I can’t get over how many say that the social scene sucks, and that everyone is very cliquey, although, looking up reviews for my second choice school, the one that is in state, weren’t much better– although they were better, but a majority were commenting on how beautiful Charleston was and how going there is so awesome because it’s in the heart of the city. Which, really means nothing to me because I live in Charleston and have been there so many times.

We’ll see, anyways, it’s time for bed I suppose. I need to actually go to the gym tomorrow, I’ve got to start losing weight.

Well, let’s see. It’s been a long couple of weeks. I’m just not feeling up to my full self as of right now. I don’t know why. I’m doing well in school, I’m going to the gym almost everyday. I’m living better, but I’m not feeling better. I’m just so tired, and waking up is becoming a chore, which isn’t a good sign for me. And, to top things off, I just feel like I have no one to talk to, which sounds bad, but it’s true. Maybe I’m completely off the money here, but I appear rather happy go lucky all the time, I talk to people about their problems all the time, I care, and I just feel like when I have a problem, it’s pushed aside, like it’s a chore for people to listen. And, it stinks, because this past week, especially today I could have used someone to talk to. In other news, time is ticking for Stony Brook. I couldn’t be more nervous and excited at the same time if I tried.

Whoops

Well I definitely meant to write this post way sooner! Anyways, I got back from NYC & D.C. a couple weeks ago, and really had the experience of a lifetime. We left June 6th, and drove and drove and drove (you get the point), until we were in NewBrunswick, NJ. We drove a straight twelve hours. I think it was the lush landscape, and seeing a couple nifty places like D.C. on the way up, Richmond, Baltimore, that got me excited and to the point where I just didn’t want to stop driving. We actually got to go into the city twice, June 7th, because we had to kill some time before my family got off work, and later in the week. The first time we went we took the ferry from Hoboken into NYC via 40th street, and walked to Times Square. Right before we boarded the ferry, I couldn’t believe it, my eyes were looking at this skyline I dreamt of for years, and I finally, finally got to see it. When we arrived in Times Square, I was in awe, everything was so amazing. We ate and went to Top of the Rock, and explored a couple fun places. We got to see the Apple Store & FAO Schwartz. Throughout the week I spent time with my family, which was awesome, it’s nice to finally have extended family who I can relate to, and get along with, they’re very awesome people. I got to see my campus, which was awesome, I really liked it. And, I went to orientation, which made me kind of sad because it’s really settling in, I’m going to be far from my family, my home. I remember looking at a map before the trip and thinking “this isn’t too far.” But, once I drove, boy is it far. 850 miles away. We got to go in the city later in the day, and went to the M.E.T. and other nifty places! I love the pace of the city, I just can’t keep up. I really like the way of life up there. Also, throughout the week my cousin took me to all these awesome places, and really showed me around Long Island, which was awesome because now I kind of have some sort of an idea where a little bit of some things are. Then, we bid our goodbyes on Sunday night, and headed for D.C. around 2:30am Monday morning. We parked at the Reagan building around 10am , and explored the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, White House, and Museum of Natural History (all before 3pm mind you!). When we got to the hotel, well they screwed up booking, so they gave us a hotel room at the very chic Topaz Hotel, and refunded us our money, which was awesome. We ate at Shake Shack, which is completely delicious, and then the next day left for home.Since then, I’ve been doing all sorts of homework, catching up essentially, and trying to hang out with everyone before I leave. It’s crazy that in around a month and three weeks I’ll be leaving for Long Island for a good while. Hopefully i’ll post something before then, but my track record hasn’t been the greatest lately (or ever) with keeping up.

I’ve been counting down the days for months now, and it’s finally come! Sarah & I are going to New York, staying with awesome family in Long Island, exploring the city, doing orientation for school, and then DC and her hometown on the way back. It’s pretty much going to be the best week and a half of my life. It’s a surreal feeling really. I’ve been waiting so long, I’ve always wanted to live in New York. And, it’s here. Right in front of my face. Two more months until I can officially call Long Island my home—eh home away from home. For me, home will always be Moncks Corner, it’ll always be in this house I’m sitting in right now. It’ll always be my mother & father and sisters– right here at the end of our cul de sac.

Life changes so quickly, so shockingly, it’s a sit down and hold on kind of existence.

Summer Semester.

So, Summer semester is here, and I’m actually looking forward to it. I know I’m going to regret this post later, but, it gives me something to do. Plus, I don’t totally hate all of my classes. I’m running out of things to take at Trident, so here’s what I have selected:

…Geography 101. Yuck. (But I figure, I better start learning where places are actually at)

Reinvention

So, here’s another pointless rant about my self esteem and such, definitely run away as quickly as possible. I’m really ready to change, and I know it’s such a remedial thing to say, everybody changes gradually, and to change on the fly would mean living a false life, a false pretense if you will. But, I really want to change, I don’t know how, I just want to wake up different one day, (I know this sounds like 10th grade self esteem issues), but I’m tired with the way I look, and certain characteristics about myself. In other news, it’s like two weeks until Sarah and I go to NYC+DC, and I for one could not be more excited, It’s a chance to see some of the world’s most amazing sites, all with my awesome family in Long Island, and my good friend Sarah. I’m really glad she and I are going together, our personalities mesh very well, and it’ll be loads of fun.

I have done some late night researching, and of course I have to consult with Sarah about this, but I definitely want to try to stop through Washington D.C. on the way up to New York, maybe even stay the night there, before I head up to Manhattan/Long Island! I’m getting really excited for this road trip, and can’t wait to experience it. I’m going to have my camera ready, and car charger waiting. I definitely need to buy an AC adapter for my car though, have to keep everything charged (like the true tech geek I am).

In other news, My acne is out in full force this week (awesome), and I found out how much weight I’ve gained since I quit caring (even more awesome).

So…I am definitely going to change this. This monday. Wish me luck all 5 of you who visit my blog .

Another summer!

I cannot believe Summer is finally here, and I am jobless! (I’m not really excited to not have a source of income, but at the same time it’s nice not to have to work). I have had a job since my junior year in high school so it’s nice to finally just have a summer to relax.

However, I’m taking three classes, and I am determined to lose weight. I think I’m definitely going to use this blog to help me keep track. So, as of today I am +95 pounds. When I get to 0, that means I’ve reached my goal. Long road ahead my friends.

Well hello again. This is my second attempt at not completely abandoning this blog. I definitely won’t try to. So, I put in my two weeks notice at Best Buy, my last day is this coming saturday. And, second, finally, Summer is upon us! I will be relaxing (more or less because I am completely broke), but I definitely can’t wait for a relaxing Summer. I haven’t had a Summer off since my sophomore summer.

Hello Again

Dear WordPress,

A lot, and I mean a lot has happened since my last update. First and foremost, my parents are close to finalizing the adoption paperwork for our new family member Lily, a blessing in disguise. Second, me and my closest friend are no longer speaking, and as unfortunate as it is, I think our parting was inevitable (I just hate that it ended on bad terms). Third, I am now a prospective student for Stony Brook University. I’m more or less very excited and nervous, and I just can’t imagine being over 700 miles away from my family. Fourth, my little sister, went to prom, PROM. I remember just yesterday being excited for her to be able to ride a bike so me and her could stroll around our neighborhood.

I now am focusing more on myself, and those around me. Little details and material possessions are starting to mean less and less to me. I am leaving my job soon, and am going to focus on friends, family, school, and my weight loss (that needs to happen immediately).

I look at this blog, and I look at posts from high school talking about prom, graduation, trident, Gap, and It’s funny, the time has flown completely by, without giving me a passing glance.

Life has a funny way of taking care of things.

So as we all know by now, 2011 is upon us. Well, its here and ready for us, whether or not we are ready for it is the better question. I can honestly say its been kind of a rocky start to the new year but I think that things will get better, i mean you can only go up when you’ve hit the bottom. Im definitely going to try to keep my resolutions this year, losing weight, taking better care of my teeth, my finances, etc.

Christmas

Well it’s Christmas time again. I am excited, I love Christmas, I love the atmosphere, the jolly attitude from people (outside the stores), and the overall tone. But, this year I can’t wrestle my mind to get happy, probably because the gift my parents were most proud of, my North Face jacket, doesn’t fit, and it’s because I’ve gained weight. It’s thoroughly depressing, and I just really need to lose weight, my pants aren’t fitting right, nothing is fitting right. It’s depressing, and I can’t help shake this feeling. I’m being very selfish, I should be happy, but I can’t just pop into happy mode.

So, as a naive person of the internet, I left WordPress because I found it to be boring, and moved to Tumblr. However, Tumblr and WordPress are two different things entirely (so I’ve learned). Tumblr is great for social networking, and reblogging pictures and funny sayings, however, posting about me, posting paragraphs about what I think, well, Tumblr isn’t good for that. So, I’m back WordPress, and how I’ve missed you.

I’ll also say Merry Christmas, and I can’t wait to start blogging here again, I’m not going to get rid of my Tumblr, but I’m definitely going to come back to using WordPress for things that actually, I don’t know, matter! I’m thinking about changing the name of this blog, because my tumblr has the anotherdayhere.com URL linked to it.

Success

Well, it’s been a while. I haven’t completely given up on this website yet, too much has happened through these posts to just up and abandon it, I’ve experienced road trips, graduation, my first year of college, now moving on to the second. I’d love to have this website for years to come, just so I can look back, and see what an idiot I was the year before (because we all constantly improve ourselves each year, or so we like to think). My gym days have ceased unfortunately, and I’m very upset about it. I was actually losing weight, feeling better, and I felt happier. I’m going to make a conscious effort to exercise, even If I can’t make it to the gym, I’ll at least try to do something. Run, (or attempt to), swim, anything really. After all, success is making conscious choices. Anyone can run through McDonalds, grab a burger and go, but it takes an effort to skip the burger, and go somewhere that offers salads, or whole wheat sandwiches. Anyone can pick up a ps3 controller, and spend hours playing video games, but it takes a conscious effort to go out for a jog. I want to get to the point where making healthy eating choices, and exercising comes naturally. Not the other way around.

Anyways. I just launched my “portfolio” via deviantART. Check it out here. I like the minimalistic design, I’ve always been a fan of minimalism in design, simple lines, solid colors, that’s always been a favorite of mine. Anyways, off to bed. Hopefully I”m going to the beach with my family tomorrow, granted another summer storm doesn’t wash us out.
